The Morrell Wine Group has been around since the 1940s and is associated with several important “firsts” in the New York wine scene. In 1994, Morrell & Company became the first to hold a fine wine auction open to the public and the first to offer wine auctions online. In 1999, Morrell Wine Bar & Café opened at 1 Rockefeller Center next to their retail store. Amazingly it was the first wine bar in NYC dedicated to serving a wide range of wines by the glass. Their wine bar is on our “must visit” list when we’re the city.

I received an email from Roberta Morrell this morning—at the wine bar they have just upped their own ante.

They are now serving true world-class wines by the glass. For example:

Nenin Pomerol 2006                                           $47/glass
“Bright crushed berry, chocolate and licorice aromas follow
through to a full body, with ultra-refined tannins and a long,
polished finish. There’s a lovely texture to this wine.”

Here’s today’s menu: Morrell Wine by the glass

By the way, the folks there know their way around some tasty treats, also—steak tartare is not to be missed and stuffed mushrooms piled high with crab. Cheers!
